Broken Hi Hat Pedal Emergency

Zip-Ties

Zip-Ties

Most of us have had a Hi Hat pedal break on us and at the worst times.

I once had a pedal break, where the chain meets the foot board, during a sound check with a band I had not played with before. The last thing I want to do is have a bad first impression because of a hardware issue. How embarrassing.

Thankfully the sound guy had a great idea.
He gave me a couple of Zip-Ties to connect the foot board to the chain.
I put two ties through the hole in the top of the foot board and then through the last link of the chain.

Not only did this work but it didn't feel any different than before AND it lasted through that three hour gig plus four hours of practicing.

So, two zip-ties got me seven hours of playing on a broken pedal. They are very cheap and you can keep them in your hardware bag.

I hope it works for you too.
