cruise ship drum charts

I just recently did a cruise ship gig . It was my first time out and only for a month, I was filling in for the regular drummer. I was told this was a sight reading gig, but the condition of the drum charts were in such bad condition, I'd say they were almost unreadable especially the charts to the production shows. They looked like a battle zone with all kinds of markings, corrections, parts missing , poor drum notation or incomplete notation. It was a nightmare trying to read the charts. Is this pretty standard? And if so, any tips on how to handle this sort of situation? I plan on going out again and I'm starting to stress out over the production show charts.
