Without hearing you and knowing what your teacher gave you, the only thing I can suggest is to listen
to some examples.
Some more modern examples are on John Mayer's Continuum and Try CD's with Steve Jordan. The popular "Gravity" is a perfect slow 6/8 feel.

Honestly...that would be the best example of blues shuffle drumming that is easily available.
John Mayer's new live DVD can be downloaded from ITunes. There are some awesome blues shuffles on that.
